Conversation that i dislike
A: Where are you studying?
me: Swinburne Sarawak.
A: What course are you taking?
Me: Mechatronics Engineering.
A: Mechatronics? What is that?
Me: The hybrid of Mechanical and Electronics Engineering.
A: Will you go to Swinburne Melbourne at the final year?
ME: …………….
The question in red is what I dislike. Why many people like to ask me this kind of question? Is it because their sons, daughters and they themselves study at Australia?

They think that people will get smarter if they study overseas.
Vik on 11 May 2007 at 8:01 pm #
Actually it’s the reverse, people who are smart usually like to study overseas because the schools around here sucks.
But it doesn’t mean you can’t be the best if you are studying local.

Not everyone can afford to study oversea.

Not every parent will sampai hati invest in their children’s education, instead of buying big cars and big house. They only know how to drive big cars and show off how big their car is without knowing that cars are the worst investment. When their children say “I wanna go xxx study”, the parents will say “ops…i just spent RM2xx,xxx on a 5 series…too bad”

Small town mentality. I’m referring to the conversation you mentioned. Very very common among elder generations in Kuching. Haha…
When I completed my STPM exam, peeps around me kept asking what course am I going to take. As if I can predict my results. No good result no talk! Wakakaka~
JC on 21 May 2007 at 7:42 am #
and parents like to show off their sons and daughters’ results.
